Freightliner tasked us to strategize and design an example dealership website with guidelines to manage consistency across all participating Freightliner dealerships, to align their brand and user experiences, and give them the ability to easily update site content with a custom Content Management System to maintain SEO best practices .
The strategy for creating a standards guide for the dealership site required an analysis of the current and future needs of all dealerships. We did a competitive analysis to look at the extremes in both maximum and minimums of all of the variable content, manufacturers, categories of trucks, and multiple locations associated to the dealerships. We discovered a need for ease of use in both extremes while maintaining good usability and proper standards.
The biggest challenges we faced were creating large dropdown menus, and defining the filtering capabilities that would work across all dealerships. With so much variable content, we needed to best utilize screen space in browsers, tablet, and mobile devices. Another challenge was to create a backend framework for all dealerships but still allowed each dealership to have its own unique front-end design that matched with their particular marketing goals.
